Father we want to take this moment to thank You for this New Year.

We remember Your great love for us and for our world.

Please bless our world with peace and comfort for all those who are suffering because of war.
Bless us, too, and all our families and friends as this New Year dawns.

We now light this candle as we remember that Our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, is still the Light of the World.
(Let a child or someone else who is not leading this prayer light the candle.)

We believe that it is much better to light one candle than to curse the darkness.
We know that we too, are commanded by Your Son to bring light and hope to this world.

Father of love, we are getting ready to attend Holy Mass together now, our first Mass of the year 2016.
Make us joyful and thankful for this day and for every day of the year.

Our church will be celebrating the Feast of the Solemnity of Mary today.
We join with all the Catholics of the world in honoring Mary on her day.

As we walk in the newness of the light, keep us in love with one another and ready to say “yes” to Your call as Mary has taught us.

Bless us, Father as we begin this year,
in the Name of Jesus Our Lord.
