Jerusalem in the Holy City – the Holiest City on Earth where Our Lord was crucified. It’s no surprise then that Jerusalem gifts reflect its holiness and also its rich history. When MyJerusalemStore.com asked me to review their website it was fun to shop, but also a meaningful practice to think about what we have, where it comes from, what it means in a historical sense.
Anointing Oil was used in biblical times to anoint the high priest, his descendants, and it was also sprinkled in the Tabernacle. You can read more about it in Exodus 25:6; Leviticus 8:30; Numbers 4:16. The oils from Israel are virgin olive oil mixed with fragrant herbs native to the hills and mountains of Jerusalem. Many Christians and Catholics like to use anointing oils before their daily prayers or other prayer rituals.
Armenian Ceramics, for many people around the world, represent Jerusalem. How? It started with Armenian pilgrims and as these pilgrims found refuge and stayed in Jerusalem they continued making pottery in the beautiful blue and bold style of Armenia. The art continued strongly, especially in the “Armenian Quarter” in Jerusalem, so much so that Armenian pottery makes many think of Jerusalem. You can find traditional dining wear, but also fun modern ceramics, like English home blessings or my favorite, a “Shalom Ya’ll” plaque.
The Dead Sea is home to unique minerals that are legendary. You can enjoy modern Dead Sea spa experience without leaving your home. AHAVA is one of the top brands, also Edom, Ein Gedi brands make products with Dead Sea salts and waters. Medical tourists visit the Dead Sea from all over the world, but with the Internet you can bring the healing powers to you.
Made exclusively with olive wood from the Holy Land, I love the idea of supporting artists in both Israel and Bethlehem that work on the handcrafted olive wood items. Owning a small piece of a tree that lived tens of years, maybe even hundreds of years in the Holy Land is a great gift. The Olive Wood Christmas ornaments are lovely and if you buy from My Jerusalem Store, you know that you’re supporting artisans in Israel and Bethlehem making them and not a factory in China.
The olive oil of the Mediterranean is rich, varied, and one of the largest assets of Israel. From pre-biblical times today, olives are abundant in the Holy Land. The olives are a renewable resource with an annual harvest that is used to make olive oil every year. Even though you might have heard Israel is the land of milk and honey, it’s also the land of olives too.
I was surprised to learn that Israeli honey comes in many varieties from many regions. For example, there is honey from the Jerusalem hills, Galilee Mountains, and Negev Dessert. Is honey even sweeter when it’s from the Holy Land? It just might be… Honey is a unique way to experience Israel without going there.
I was surprised at how many different cross necklaces there are available! There is a design to fit everyone’s style. The most interesting cross, I thought, was the Jerusalem Cross. It’s interesting to see it making a fashion comeback from the crucifixion cross. I think I like them both.
Inspired by the Bible, jewelry from Israel features special blessings & prayers, and Holy Land themes. Many of the pieces at My Jerusalem Store are from special artists in Jerusalem and around Israel. I can imagine that it must be inspiring to be in the land where the bible actually happened. The land where pilgrims for centuries have come to be closer to God, Jesus, & the Holy Spirit – Israel. The pieces show the artists deep connection to the land and to the bible.
